Natale Zappia is the Nadine Austin Wood Chair of American History and co-directsWhittier’s Sustainable Urban Farm Lab (SUrF). As a scholar trained in early American, environmental, and borderlands history, Zappia’s work on long term environmental change intersects with his interest in modern food systems and community-based movements which are fighting to gain access to healthy environments in rural and urban areas.

This has resulted in several digital mapping projects, including the Early California Cultural Atlas (http://ecai.org/ecca/) and the Open Gaarden History App (https://opengaarden.com). You can see more of Zappia’s work at www.natalezappia.com.
